There is a particular kind of loyalty that Galaxy owners have. They chose the phone on purpose — for the screen, the camera, the S Pen, the fact that it was not an iPhone — and they tend to keep it for longer. Which means that, two or three years in, they are the customers most likely to be nursing a battery that has quietly lost a third of its capacity.
The good news is that a Samsung battery replacement is one of the highest-value repairs there is. From £49, in under an hour, a Galaxy that dies by mid-afternoon goes back to lasting a full day, and the performance throttling Samsung applies to worn batteries disappears with it.
The less good news is that Samsung batteries are genuinely harder to replace than iPhone batteries, for reasons of construction, and that difference shows up in exactly how a shop does the job. Done well, it is routine. Done badly, it cracks the rear glass, tears the fingerprint flex or punctures the cell.
At Fone Doctors we replace Galaxy batteries every day, and this guide covers the signs, the real prices, the process, and how to check your own battery health before you book anything.
How To Check Your Galaxy Battery Health
Samsung does not show a percentage the way iPhone does, but the information is there.
The built-in diagnostic
Settings, then Battery and Device Care, then Diagnostics, then Battery Status. Samsung reports one of three states:
| Samsung says | What it means | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Good | Capacity above roughly 80 percent of original | No action needed |
| Weak | Capacity between roughly 70 and 80 percent | Replace soon — this is the threshold where shutdowns and throttling begin |
| Bad | Capacity below roughly 70 percent | Replace now |
The Samsung Members app
Open Samsung Members, go to Support, then Phone Diagnostics, then Battery Status. On many models this reports a Life figure — Good, Normal, Weak or Bad — and on recent One UI versions it also shows a capacity percentage directly.
The hidden diagnostic menu
On most Galaxy phones, opening the dialler and entering *#0228# shows raw battery data including voltage and, on some models, a percentage. It is technical, but it is the most precise reading the phone will give you.
The symptoms that matter more than any reading
| Symptom | What it means |
|---|---|
| Shuts down above 20 percent, especially in cold weather | Voltage collapse under load — the cell is worn |
| Loses 10 percent or more in a few minutes of ordinary use | Worn cell with inaccurate gauge |
| Charges to 100 percent, dies within four or five hours | Capacity genuinely reduced |
| Phone is noticeably slower than it was | Samsung applies performance limits to worn batteries |
| Warm during charging, warm at idle | Rising internal resistance |
| Back glass lifting, or the phone rocks on a flat table | Swollen battery — stop charging it and get it replaced today |
Two or three of those together is a clear answer regardless of what the diagnostic says.

Why Samsung batteries cost slightly more than iPhone
Two reasons, both about access. Galaxy phones open from the back: the rear glass must be heated and lifted, which means fresh adhesive and a new waterproofing seal on reassembly, both of which are included. And Samsung bonds the cell to the midframe with a strong full-surface adhesive rather than pull-tabs, so safe removal takes longer and more skill.
Why Samsung Battery Replacement Is Harder Than It Looks
This matters because it is the difference between a shop you should use and one you should not.
The rear glass has to come off. It is bonded around the perimeter with strong adhesive. Too little heat and the glass cracks on the way off. Too much and the camera lens cover or the rear glass itself is damaged. Every Galaxy battery job starts with this, and a cracked rear panel during a battery swap is the most common collateral damage from inexperienced repairs.
The battery is glued down, hard. There are no stretch-release tabs. The cell is bonded to the frame across its whole face. It has to be released with controlled heat and solvent from the edges inward, never levered from the middle. A levered lithium cell bends, and a bent lithium cell can puncture and ignite. This is not a job for a kitchen table.
The wireless charging coil sits over the battery. On most models the wireless charging and NFC coil is a thin flex assembly that lies across the battery and must be lifted first without tearing it.
The fingerprint sensor flex runs nearby. On S-series models the under-display fingerprint sensor's flex routes close to the battery. Catching it with a tool is an expensive mistake.
The seal has to be restored. Samsung's IP68 rating depends on the rear glass adhesive. A battery replacement that reuses old adhesive, or spot-glues the corners, leaves the phone open to moisture. Fresh full-perimeter adhesive is not optional.
What a Proper Samsung Battery Replacement Involves
- Free diagnostic. Device Care battery status confirmed, capacity and voltage measured under load, charging circuit checked — so a charging fault is not mistaken for a battery fault.
- Full function documentation before any work.
- Rear glass removal under controlled, even heat. Lifted from the edge with plastic tools, camera lens cover protected.
- Wireless charging coil and any overlying flex assemblies lifted and set aside.
- Battery connector disconnected first — before anything else on the board is touched.
- Cell released with controlled heat and isopropyl alcohol worked in from the edges. The cell is never bent, levered or punctured.
- Frame cleaned of all old adhesive.
- Capacity-matched replacement cell with genuine protection circuitry fitted and bonded. Not an inflated-mAh cell from an unbranded supplier — a cell that matches the original specification so that Samsung's battery management reports accurately.
- Coil and flexes refitted; connector seated.
- Rear glass rebonded with fresh full-perimeter adhesive and a new seal, then clamped while it cures.
- Full test: charge rate, wireless charging, NFC, fingerprint sensor, all cameras, and Device Care battery status confirmed as Good.
Our Samsung battery replacement service follows that sequence on every Galaxy, from an A05 to a Z Fold 6, with a twelve-month warranty on the cell and the seal.
Getting It Done in London
| Route | Best for | Turnaround |
|---|---|---|
| Walk-in | Anyone near London Bridge, Liverpool Street or Canary Wharf | 45 to 60 minutes; foldables 90 minutes |
| Collect and return | Office workers across central London | Same day |
| UK-wide postal | Customers outside London | 2 to 3 working days, tracked and insured both ways |
Our three London clinics each sit a few minutes' walk from the station. Same parts, same process and the same twelve-month warranty on every route.
Getting the Most From Your New Galaxy Battery
Samsung gives you more battery controls than most, and they are worth using.
- Enable Protect Battery (Settings, Battery and Device Care, Battery, More Battery Settings). It caps charging at 85 percent, which meaningfully extends cell life if you do not need the last 15 percent every day.
- Leave Adaptive Battery on. It learns your usage and limits background activity from apps you rarely open.
- Keep it cool. Heat above 35°C is the largest cause of battery wear. No dashboards, no windowsills, case off while fast charging.
- Avoid Wireless PowerShare as a habit. Reverse wireless charging is convenient and inefficient, generating heat in your battery to charge something else.
- Use a quality charger. Samsung's own or a certified USB-PD charger. Unstable voltage from cheap adapters makes the charging circuit run hot.
- Do not run it flat to "calibrate." That advice is from a different battery chemistry and causes wear on lithium cells.

Key Takeaways
- Samsung battery replacement in London costs £49 to £99 and takes 45 to 60 minutes. Foldables carry two cells and take longer.
- Check Device Care, Diagnostics, Battery Status. "Weak" or "Bad" means replace. Unexpected shutdowns mean replace regardless.
- Galaxy batteries are harder to replace than iPhone: rear glass off, full-surface adhesive, coil and flexes to protect. Choose a shop that does this daily.
- Fresh rear glass adhesive and a new seal are part of the job. Without them, water resistance is gone.
- Performance throttling on a worn battery is real and disappears with a healthy cell.
- Enable Protect Battery and keep the phone cool. Those two habits add years.
