The cover glass over the rear lens has cracked, usually from a drop onto a hard surface. Photos come out with flare, haze, or a visible line across the image. Dust and moisture now have a direct path to the sensor. Camera glass replacement on its own is a quick, affordable fix if the lens module underneath is undamaged.
Every shot is soft regardless of lighting, or the camera hunts endlessly for focus and never locks on. This usually means the optical image stabilisation (OIS) mechanism has jammed or the autofocus actuator has failed. Not every camera fault needs a repair. A surprising number of phones we inspect need nothing more than a lens wipe and a settings reset. Try these before you book anything.
Clean the lens cover with a soft, lint-free cloth. Fingerprint grease and pocket dust cause the exact same haze as a scratched lens. Open Settings, find the camera app, and clear its cache. Force-close the app and reopen it. If you have a case with a raised lip around the camera cutout, remove it and test again, because some cases partially block the lens at certain zoom levels.
If none of that helps, and especially if you can see a crack in the glass, physical damage to the lens ring, or the camera has stopped working after a drop, you need a professional inspection. Walk in and we will check it properly, and if a wipe is all it needed you walk out without paying.
Modern phone cameras are modular. The rear camera system typically consists of two, three, or four individual lens modules, each with its own sensor, autofocus motor, and OIS gimbal, all connected to the logic board by a single flex cable. The front camera sits on a separate flex that often also carries the proximity sensor and, on iPhones, the entire Face ID array.

Almost always dust or debris trapped between the camera glass and the lens element. If the cover glass is cracked, particles enter through the gap and sit directly on the lens surface. The rattling noise is the OIS (optical image stabilisation) mechanism. A gentle click when you shake the phone is normal because the lens floats on a gimbal. But if the camera view shakes visibly when recording video, or you can hear a continuous buzzing or grinding, the OIS motor has failed and the module needs replacing. The longer you leave it, the worse the video quality gets.
Phones with multiple rear cameras use separate sensor modules for each focal length. If one lens shows a black screen while the others work fine, that individual module has failed or its flex cable connection has come loose, usually after a drop. We can replace the faulty module without affecting the others.
No. Replacing a camera module does not touch your storage chip, so photos, messages, and apps stay exactly where they are. We still suggest backing up before any repair, as a matter of good habit, and it costs nothing.
Internal fogging means moisture has entered the lens module, usually through cracked camera glass or a damaged rear housing seal. Simply drying the phone will not clear it because the condensation leaves mineral deposits on the lens coatings. The module needs replacing, and we check the seal around the camera bump to prevent it happening again.
We do. iPad cameras are handled in-house, and MacBook camera modules, which sit behind the display bezel, are replaced depending on the model. Both take longer than phones because of the chassis design, and the timeline is confirmed at inspection.
